How can we better neighborhood night out?

In mid February, I discontinued the Neighborhood Night Out program so that we could possibly revamp and tweak the successful program. Since pausing the program, we have received 78 emails from neighbors inquiring about its reinstatement. Prior to stopping NNO, I had received emails and questions about trying to incorporate Neighborhood businesses into the program. Before picking it back up, I would like to pose a few questions to the readers of Big Blue.

1) Would you support adding businesses to the NNO program?
2) How could we include businesses effectively?
3) Would business owners be willing to stay open late on their designated days?
4) Should there be only one business selected? Or, would it be better to have one “shop the heights” date?
5) Would neighborhood businesses accept Blue Bucks for coupons, i.e. $1.00 off?

The program was designed to help encourage neighbors to keep their dollars in the neighborhood, try neighborhood restaurants and enjoy great food with their neighbors. This post is meant to provoke dialog from both neighbors and business owners. How can we make the NNO more successful?

  1. Maybe pair a business with a nearby dining/drinking option. E.g. Sherry’s with the Refinery, Reservations with D&D Antiques, Cappy’s and the Tampa St Market.

  2. Heck yeah, I would be willing to stay open later on a designated NNO day! (Already open later on Thursdays until 8 p.m.)

Am also willing, with prior knowledge of what the day is, to invoke some kind of coupon/percentage off for neighbors.

  3. So now we’re going to shop, eat and drink all in close proximity. I like it!
